Description

A small art glass bowl by Dutch sculptor Jolanda Prinsen, made for German glassworks Walther Glas in the 1980s. The bowl is inspired by cockle shells — their spiral forms are pressed into the base of the glass, abstract but immediately recognisable once you see them.

The glass is clear and heavy, with an irregular, almost geological edge that catches the light differently from every angle. The kind of object that looks just as good holding a ring or a piece of jewellery as it does sitting empty on a shelf.

Prinsen, born in Haarlem in 1947, worked as a sculptor from 1970 onward, later based in Venice. Nature and the human figure were at the centre of her work, and you feel that in the tactile, slightly wild quality of these pieces.

No chips or cracks. Good vintage condition.
